Hi,
I am running windows 2000 SBS with SP4, recently download dcdiag and netdiag
troubleshooting tools to help find the server performance, however after I
install these 2 tools, from CLI , issue dcdiag, or netdiag, got err message
"dcdiag /netdiag is not a recognized internal or external command". I use
this tools frequestly on other server, why failed on this.

Thanks for any suggestion on this.

You need to make sure that they are on the path, or you need to run them
from the directory they are installed in.

When you double-click smtpdiag.exe, it asks you for a folder name. Then it
extracts the files into that folder (installs it). To run the tool, you must
open a command prompt, change to the folder containing the extracted files
and run the tool from there. All these diagnostic tools run from a command
prompt, you can't just double-click them.

See http://msmvps.com/bernard/archive/2004/09/28/14480.aspx

Good luck.

Kathy,
Thanks a lot.
Yes, I hv successuly running the two command, however I find maybe the
SMTPdiag doesn't prvide correct info, when I try to test destination email
domain, it shows" successfully connect to Mail.domain.com server, Connecting
to mail.domain.com [mail server IP] on port 25. Connecting to the server
failed. Error: 10060
Failed to submit mail to mail.domain.com", however I send test email, it can
receive, this happed on hotmail and my other mail domaine.
so that means I am unable to got to know which destination are reachable
which are not.
Bit confuzed now??

Sending mail and receiving mail are two different things. If you get can't
make a connection on port 25, then you can't send mail to that server. This
could be because your ISP blocks port 25 or only allows connections on port
25 to its own mail servers, or because the other server does not accept port
25 connections from your IP address (perhaps it has no PTR/rDNS record), or
it is not an SMTP server, or the server uses authentication and it is not
getting the right user name and password, or port 25 is closed.

Why not set up your ISP's SMTP server as a smarthost and send through that
instead of using DNS.

I have not used SMTPdiag, I just use telnet to test the connection.

Hi, Kathy,
Thanks for ur time spent on my issue.
I think the major reason that the we can not configure our ISP smpt server
to relay mail for is maybe they will charge us on this, customer want save
money as much as possible. :)
Anyhow ,thanks and have a nice day
